Acute Prescriptions
Any requests for acute prescription items without a consultation in practice should be made by contacting the practice on 028 66 342456 or in person at reception. You will be required to provide the receptionist with details of your request, which will be shared with a prescriber in the practice who may contact you and/or issue a prescription.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients on long term medication can request a repeat prescription by contacting the Repeat Prescription Telephone line on 028 66 342456 between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. Requests can also be made in person at reception, or you may register for an online repeat prescribing ordering service, for further details contact reception.
Please allow 48 hours for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
Medication Reviews
Annual Medication Reviews
Patients who are prescribed repeat medication for long term conditions (eg high blood pressure, diabetes) are usually required to attend for review with a GP or Practice Nurse on an annual basis. This also includes prescriptions for contraception and HRT. Please try to plan for annual review and contact the GP practice to arrange an appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Some specific medications will require more frequent review and/or blood monitoring – you should be made aware of this when commencing any relevant medication.
High Risk Medication Reviews
Patients on high risk medication (amber or red list drugs) will require frequent review and/or blood monitoring.
Cost Effective Prescribing
The practice follows guidance from the Department of Health aimed at reducing prescribing costs. Guidance may dictate that certain items should not be prescribed, for example bath and shower preparations for dry skin and some vitamin preparations. Some prescription items should be prescribed generically or as a specific cost effective formulation.
Over the counter items such as Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and anti-histamines are recommended to be purchased by the patient.

Pharmacy First Service
The Pharmacy First Service in community pharmacies offer free advice and treatment for a range of everyday health conditions such as diarrhoea, headlice, threadworms and thrush.
The Pharmacy First Service has also been extended to include Emergency Hormonal Contraception and Urinary Tract Infections in females aged 16-64 years. Seasonally, the Pharmacy First Service will cover Winter Conditions including coughs, colds and sore throats.
